How do the Perinatal Support groups work?

At Mind Mosaic we provide support groups that offer a safe nurturing space for parents to become better informed as to why they may feel the way they do and gain resources to help them self-manage their thoughts and feelings. The support groups can also provide a useful stop-gap or alternative for parents awaiting counselling. The support groups also provide a valuable opportunity to meet other Mums and Dads. What some of the support group attendees have said …….

  • ‘Helped me feel less alone in my struggles’
  • ‘Calm friendly welcome’
  • ‘Everyone was so friendly and open’.
  • ‘I learnt a lot, it was amazing, a great experience’.
  • ‘It was easy for us to bond together’.

Counselling and Perinatal Mental Health

Our perinatal services are available to women, men and their families who are affected by perinatal mental health issues. Although this is often called postnatal depression, it can be experienced as depression, anxiety, panic attacks, low self-esteem, difficulties coping day to day or getting out and about. Our services are available throughout pregnancy and until your child is 2 years old.

You can refer yourself to MindMosaic or sometimes you may be referred by a health professional, such as your GP or Health Visitor. Once we receive your referral we will telephone you to arrange an initial meeting, these meetings take place at our office in Union Street or we can arrange to telephone you. If counselling seems to be the right option for you we will arrange an appointment for you with one of our counsellors. All of our counsellors and therapists are trained to postgraduate level or are on a postgraduate training course and are members of a professional counselling organisation, the counsellors who work in the perinatal service also have specialist training in this area and offer a safe, non-judgmental service.

A counselling session lasts for 50 minutes and you will see the same counsellor each week.
